My name is Brady Hupf. I am entering my junior year in high school and have played soccer since I was five years old. I enjoy all sports and have played a wide variety since I was young to include soccer, basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, track, golf and archery. Over the last three years my parents have asked me to narrow my focus as it became too difficult to manage the schedule for everything. As I entered high school I have focused on soccer and basketball as my main focus but also participate in track and field as my third sport in school. I still like to golf in the summer but do that more for fun. In middle school I had to make the decision between football and soccer. This was a hard decision because my friends, coaches, and even my Dad pushed me to play football but I really liked the game of soccer and decided to focus there. I have played all positions in soccer and even though I am bigger than a lot of kids, played quite a bit of the striker role as I am left-footed and had a good mark on the goal. My coaches started using me a lot in the goalkeeper position over the last five years as I could cover a lot of ground in the net and had a strong kicking leg. When I was younger they told me that I could come out of goalkeeper when our team was ahead by a lot of goals to play striker. I was really glad that we were a good team and had a lot of opportunity to play many positions. Over the last four years I have played full-time goalkeeper. I have worked hard at this position and made varsity goalkeeper as a freshman. I also play goalkeeper for MC United. I am looking forward to continuing to growing my skills and knowledge in this position.
While I love playing sports and play whenever I can, I have always been told by my parents that my grades are more important than sports. They have driven me to work hard in school and to understand how my grades will help me with my future goals of becoming a commercial pilot. I have always done well in school. My favorite classes are US Government and Geography.
In addition to working hard in school and sports, my parents have also told me that it’s important to work hard in life. I started working part-time during the summer with my father at his roofing business when I was 10 years old doing clean-up. I also work year-around on weekends as a cook/dishwasher at a restaurant just down the road from our house since I was 13. I like saving money toward future goals as well as having my own spending money.
I have wanted to become a commercial pilot since 7th grade. I like the idea of traveling the world. I am hoping to start training and working toward getting a pilot’s license next summer. By getting my pilot’s license while in high school it will help me to make sure that this is what I really want to do in college.
In addition to school and sports, I like to spend time with my friends and family as well as hunting and fishing. Every summer my family travels to Canada for a week of fishing. This is my favorite trip and look forward to it each year. I also like to be outdoors riding my bike or snowmobiling. I have enjoyed playing both AAU soccer and basketball over the years because I get the chance to play with a variety of kids and have developed great friendships with kids from throughout the region. While I have two years left of high school, I am excited about college and the chance to play sports at that level.
