At the age of seven, I still had the fear of water and would run from the pool. It was not until the start of first grade that I had my very first swim lesson. Coach Jean at the time had no idea who she would be dealing with. I kicked and screamed every time I set foot into the pool area. She never gave up on me and I soon was able to doggie paddle from one side to the other. It did not stop there as doggie paddle was not swimming good enough for Coach Jean. For the next 8 months, I went three times a week until I was able to complete a 25 yard freestyle. I would join the local summer league under Coach Mary Jo Heye Townsell. Coach Mary Jo quickly introduced me to the Arkansas Dolphins competitive team. I have been with Coach Mary Jo for the last 8 years. The greatest honor I have received is when I received the Trey Heye sportsmanship award. This award meant more to me than any new state record I made or high point awards. This award is named after Coach Mary Jo's son who also swam for the Arkansas Dolphins and passed at a very young age due to improper medical care. I was awarded this recognition for volunteering in the community and teaching young swimmers to swim. I want to continue to give back to the community the same opportunity that was given to me. I am a strong supportive teammate both in and out of the water. It is critical to me that the fun in swimming is never lost with the competitiveness of the sport. I will be a great addition to any team both in and out of the water. I have a strong work ethic in the water, class setting, and community.
