Hello. My name is Lucas Barrosa. I am in the eleventh grade at San Juan Hills High School. I will be graduating in June 2020. I am interested in pursuing a mechanical engineering degree because of my deep interest in science and math, as well as wanting to follow in my father's footsteps. Currently, I am taking AP Physics and Calculus to help me to achieve this goal.
I would also like to continue swimming competitively in college. My swim career began at age 7 with Mission Viejo Nadadores. Presently, I swim for Irvine NOVAquatics, as well as my high school varsity swim team. Through these years, I have developed a competitive mindset. I believe that my success is determined by my ability to improve and learn rather than to win a single event. The level of commitment and amount of effort I bring to practice has a direct effect towards my swim performance during competitions. I enjoy and excel at swimming, specifically in breaststroke, because it has given me a path to realizing my highest potential. I have qualified and participated at various swim competitions which include June Age Group, Junior Olympics, Winter Age Group, SCS Senior Invite, Santa Cruz Senior Meet, and the Kevin Perry Meet.
Additionally, I have made and continue to make positive contributions in communities surrounding me. I have had the opportunity to work in a food pantry in Santa Ana through Loyola Marymount University’s Alumni for Others. I also volunteered to help students with special needs from Kinder through 3rd grade at an elementary school in Garden Grove. These experiences fulfill the need to help others who are less fortunate, as well as the want to give back to a society that I am a part of.
In my free time, I enjoy being with friends and paintballing. My friends would describe me as easy going. Despite the high demands of AP courses and swimming, I am still able to enjoy my free time. I take pride in my ability to prioritize my time and balance my activities. This is what sets me aside from my peers.
