Garret McNab '24 Recruiting Profile

Hi, I'm Garret!

I am 15 years old and will be graduating the IB Program at Land O'Lakes High School located in Land O'Lakes, Florida in May 2024.

One of my favorite places to be is in the water, working and trying to perfect technique and beat my and my club's times, and meeting new teammates that join my high school team each fall semester. 

I started swim later than a lot of kids around me, and after having already tried a few other sports;  but when I hit the water to train my first week in practice I felt that every stroke was confirmation that I found my place in a pool. I enjoy the camaraderie that swim gives me with my teammates and coaches (my swim families), the diversity our teams represent, and the lessons I have learned in swimming  that I have carried over into academics and every day life- the biggest being: 'set a goal, and then do everything you can to try and smash it'. Even though I started a little later in swimming, I learned fast and made it to Florida's FHSAA States as a freshman (2021) and sophomore (2022) for my high school... this was further confirmation to me that I was in the right sport and on the right track. 

Academically I am interested in a wide variety of topics and enjoy psychology, technology, engineering, and law;  I also enjoy being a member of  The Société Honoraire de Français (French National Honors Society). While I am not sure what major I will choose in the future at the forefront will be considering whether a team is concerned for the whole student as an athlete and learner. 

Ultimately I am looking to be part of a team similar to the two I am on, that can: offer diversity in the swimmers and coaching staff; coach me for success while keeping in mind I am a scholar- not just a swimmer; offer a school with majors related to my interests so when it comes time to make a choice I will have enough options to decide from in order to remain with my new team swim family.

In closing, thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me. I look forward to the recruiting process and the opportunity to learn more about different teams and schools. I realize this process is about who is mutually beneficial to each other, and your consideration to spend some time on me already by reading this Personal Statement is appreciated.
