Ever since joining my swim club when I was 6, swimming has had profound influence in my life. It has allowed me to meet new people and build inseparable connections with them through grueling sets. It has allowed me to learn numerous lessons -- the most important being discipline. It has taught me that if I put my mind to something, it can be achieved through hard work and persistence. The sky is just the limit. Due to this long lasting impact swimming has had on me, I want to pursue it at the collegiate level.
In college, I plan to build my strengths as a swimmer – whether it be the mental or physical aspect of the sport. I plan to become immersed in the team culture and atmosphere, and become fully engaged in team activities. I understand the lasting influence an individual can have on the success of the team, and plan to support my teammates through anything. My high school swimming career has been highlighted through numerous Florida state senior champs meet qualifications and Florida high school state meets qualifications. In addition, I have also been a part of the city of Tallahassee’s “All Big Bend” swim team. I firmly believe I have a lot of potential in becoming better at the sport and am committed to improve at the college level by putting work at practices and meets, and becoming a good teammate for others.
In addition to swimming in college, I am also looking for a school that will provide me with an enriching and challenging academic environment. I have currently taken 19 AP classes, having maintained a 4.0 unweighted GPA, and have scored well on those exams to achieve the “National AP Scholar” award. I am ranked in the top 1% of my class. On top of swimming everyday for my club team, I am also highly active in my school, participating in numerous volunteering events, being a part of clubs such as National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Science Olympiad, and created a local Rubik’s Cube club with the intentions of raising money for the underprivileged kids. I believe that this rigorous schedule has taught me how to balance my time with swimming and prepared me for the challenges that collegiate student athletes face. I am open to schools that will provide these opportunities for me and look forward to talking with college coaches interested.
