Aloha, my name is Legend Storer
Over these few years of high school, I have come to know my faults, strengths, and talents. God has given me the physique of an athlete, especially in the area of swimming. Growing up in Hawaii and of Hawaiian descent, the ocean has always been of utmost importance in my life. Knowing the ocean, and how the water source flows from Mauka (mountain) to Makai (toward the sea) is knowledge passed down from my elders (kupuna). Understanding the ocean as a place not only to provide but a place to respect. Surfing, diving, fishing, etc. were things I got to enjoy in the ocean, but safety and the safety of others inspired me to seek out where I could serve my community. I wanted to sharpen my skill to be the best I could be in the water, which led me to the Lahaina Swim Club. Joining the swim club in the 7th grade humbled me, as I was swimming with younger kids as I had to learn the different strokes correctly. But being an all-star athlete in baseball and soccer, as well as state champion for Brazilian martial arts and having played many other club sports all simultaneously I knew I could catch on rather quickly.
In my 9th grade year, I focused all my attention on swimming. I trained, disciplined myself, and applied my athletic abilities. I have learned valuable lessons, such as discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. Swimming has shaped me into the person I am today, and I want to continue to pursue it at the highest level possible.
I say all that to say this. Swimming isn’t something I knew would be my path when I first pursued it. Swimming has just been an unseen destiny that I’ve embraced over time. When I jump into the pool and hit the water, I don’t just swim for a better time, I swim to bring honor to Hawaii, to my family, to the LORD, and to everyone who has poured into my life to get me here today.
I bring the same focus and dedication to the classroom that I do to the pool. I enjoy the challenge of learning. I currently attend Maui Preparatory Academy, a private college preparatory school. I am proud that I have made the honor roll each semester as I challenge myself in rigorous classes. In college, I hope to pursue a business degree. I believe your school, teaching, program, and coaching can help me bring honor to your school, your coaches, and your team because honor and respect is what fruit I am hopeful for from the gifts and talents God has given me.
