When I was younger my family was a huge influence in and out of the pool. They encouraged me to keep going even when I finished an excruciating set or workout and didn't want to keep going. The first time I truly became interested in swimming was when my parents took me to swim lessons where the instructors let me have fun in the water and I've been swimming ever since. As a club swimmer, and the only swimmer for my high school, I have a lot to focus on throughout the season - not only academics, but also improving my technique. Throughout my career as a swimmer, I've learned to work extra hard in practices and stay focused on the workout so my smaller physical size is less of a factor when competing at a meet. While I am often smaller than my teammates and competitors, I do not let it bother me or use it as an excuse. Instead, I use it to challenge myself to train harder, and use my training partners as representatives for other swimmers in meets. My academic goal for high school is to maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher so I’m as prepared for college as possible. My college goal is to manage my classes and maintain a good GPA all while continuing to compete in a sport I love. As an Eagle Scout I feel I possess great leadership skills and a very hard work ethic. With these characteristics and the right college, I believe I would be a great asset to your team.
