When I was young, my parents had me participate in many different sports. I never really took to any until I tried swimming. To be honest, I wasn't even sure about swimming, until my first meet. I didn't do well but I liked the competition and camaraderie of the team. I wasn't really sure at first why swimming was so much better for me than the other sports, but as I got older I realized I didn't enjoy contact sports. Swimming had all the competition I enjoyed, without the contact. I was 10, almost 11, when I started swimming and learned so much in that first year. I learned that hard work at practice did eventually show in the meets and after a year I made my first regional cut. Then a few years went by and I made state cuts and even won regional events. It felt like I unlocked a hidden talent and found a place I belonged.
School was a little different. I struggled with that feeling of belonging and I never really "fit" into any group. With my swim team being a co-op, most of my friends on the team went to the other school. This added some difficulty to the beginning of my high school career. On the upside, I am a good student and eventually found that I really loved chemistry. I did some research into what career's I could go into involving chemistry. The one that grabs my attention is forensic analyst, A.K.A someone who works in the crime lab for police. Academics is an important part of my life. While swimming is also important, I don't want it to take over my college life. Finding a program that can help me to balance academics and swimming is very important to me.
