Swimming has been a major part of my life for 8 years and I've loved every moment of it. I first started swimming when I was 8 years old and I started competitively swimming when I was 9. Not only am I passionate about swimming, but also the sport itself. I enjoy the competitiveness, the challenges, and the commitment that swimmers have. When I was in 8th grade, I was asked to be a part of the Boy's Varsity High School Swim Team. The skills I‘ve learned to become a better distance swimmer was because of this swim program. As a Freshman, I made All-State at the Minnesota Class A State Championship, in the 500 freestyle. As a Sophomore, I took 3rd place in the 500 freestyle and 6th place in the 200 freestyle at the Minnesota Class A State Championship. In my junior year, I was runner-up in the 500 freestyle and 6th place in the 200 freestyle at the State Swim Meet. My goal for my senior year is to be State Champion in both events. Over the years, I've learned in this sport that failure is a key to success, your attitude affects your performance, you must train in practice the way you want to win in a meet, and always trust the process. Even though swimming seems to be an individual sport, the bonds between teammates and coaches needs to be just as important as swimming the events themselves.
While swimming has been a major part of my life, my academics are just as important for me to succeed. I'm looking to find a college that has an even balance academically and athletically. My goal in high school is to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and complete as many college and AP classes as I can. My academic goals for college is to get my undergraduate degree in engineering and a minor in mathematics as well. I believe my skills as a student and an athlete are outgoing, self-motivation, and a natural leader. I know I will be a great asset to your program.
