From a young age, I have always enjoyed playing many sports, but as I have gotten older volleyball has become my true passion. I remember going to some college volleyball games, and leaving hoping to be on a college volleyball court myself some day. I always knew that it would take a lot of dedication and accountability to make it happen.
I have been playing club volleyball since I was nine years old, and school volleyball since sixth grade. When I first tried out, I didn't make a team, and I was jealous of all the girls who did. The next year I made a team and ever since have worked hard to improve my skills in order to continue to make teams and increase my level of competitiveness. Now as a senior in high school, I have earned a starting position on the varsity team for the past three seasons. Because it didn't come easy to me at first, and I really had to work for my success in volleyball, I think I appreciate it so much more. I have proven to myself that I can set goals and attain them.
Knowing how hard I had to work when I was younger and knowing how much farther I have to go, I enjoy when I get to help younger girls improve their volleyball skills. I have been where they are, and I remember looking up to the older girls, so I want to be the leader that they need to keep improving and loving the sport of volleyball.
I have developed a never give up mentality over the years because there have been situations in my life that have helped me realize anything can happen if you set your mind to it. This mentality has allowed me to develop strong all around volleyball skills. For example, in hitting I know it's more than just hitting as hard as I can. It's about seeing the court and being smarter than the other team.
In addition to being a multi-sport athlete, I work hard in the classroom to maintain a high GPA. I also challenge myself with honors and college level courses. At this time, I would like to keep my options open of where to attend college, but I would like to play volleyball at the highest level possible while also finding a strong academic program for the career I want to pursue. I am somewhat undecided right now but am leaning towards a career in healthcare.
