Gavin Hand '20 Recruiting Profile

I have competed in competitive swimming since I was 5 years old.  As a 7th grade student, I passed the Selection/Classification standards for New York State and was able to compete at the Varsity level. That year I worked hard and was one of only 2-3 7th graders to make the NYS Section V swim meet.  As an 8th grader, I continued to work hard and lead our varsity team in 500 yard appearances and again qualified for the NYS Section V meet.  I did not have my best swim and qualified for the consolation finals in tenth place and finished the meet in 9th place with a time that bettered the 7th and 8th place swimmers.  It proved to me that I have to swim my hardest each and every race in order to finish in the best position I can.  Besides the 500 yard Free, I enjoy swimming the 200 Free (which I also qualified for the Section V Meet this past year), 50 & 100 Free and the 100 Fly. Coach also has me swim the 200 IM, however, I do not do well in the Breast stroke and know I have to work on that to get really good at that event.

I know I am only a Freshman now and have 4 years to get better at each stroke.  It is my goal to continue to grow as a swimmer, become a leader and help my team win.  If I do well, I am hoping that I can go to college and continue to swim and get a college education at the same time.
