I began competitively swimming at the age of 13. After diving off the block for the first time, I immediately discovered that I was at a huge disadvantage compared to my peers and teammates. Starting the sport in 7th grade, I was thrown into the water with boys who had been training and doing flip-turns since they were 5 years old. Despite this, I instantly fell in love with the sport and everything it has to offer; I have enjoyed every second of it since that very first meet. Beginning my high school career on the JV team, I was the slowest in the pool but determined to catch up and be the best I could. It was from this experience that I developed a work ethic that has pushed me farther and faster than I ever imagined I could go.
I believe that with dedication and daily hard work I can achieve any goal I set out to make. I train well by completing practices that challenge me and force me to dig deep within to find the strength to achieve what I desire. I see every day, meet, and practice as an opportunity to work harder and to better myself in all aspects of my swimming. I enter every practice with a desire to do better than the day before. I
Now I am a Captain of my swim team, and I have set out determined to meet my goals for this year. I look forward to what this year's season will bring, and what I will be able to achieve.
I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14, a direct result of many busy, driven, and hardworking years. As a result of my dedication towards my academics and my schoolwork, I have been inducted into the National Honor Society as well as the National Business Honor Society. I scored a 34 composite and 35 super score on my ACT, and have a GPA of 96.38. I have learned to apply the same principles of my swimming to all areas of my schoolwork. I see every class as a challenge to learn, succeed, and excel in the units of study.
I am involved and am a member of the debate club. I work as a lifeguard for two pools, and I also work as a math tutor for 6th graders. I enjoy the ability to teach those younger than me. My goal is to show the 6th grade students that with lots of extra hard work they too can succeed in mathematics and hopefully will carry the learnings of hard work onto other areas of their schoolwork.
When I am not in the pool, studying, or sleeping, I tend to spend much of my time with friends, either in-person or through another hobby of mine: video games. I like to spend time with my family whenever possible, and especially since the pandemic I am aware of how important this is – I hope to look back and be thankful that I could spend as much time with them as I did. I thoroughly enjoy reading about cars, whether it is through magazines, the internet, YouTube videos, books, or from other people, I will always look to learn as much as I can, and to expand my current skill set and knowledge about them.
