For the past eight years, swimming has helped me become a better athlete and a better person. After trying multiple sports and activities when I was younger, I finally settled on swimming when I was nine years old.
Swimming provided a competitive edge that I found unique and the outcomes were rewarding. Yet as I grew older it became an even more important aspect of my life. About two years after I started swimming a lot of personal things happened and swimming became a way to release negativity and focus on being in the moment. I was able to distract myself from what was going on and enjoy the process of becoming a better swimmer.
From that point on I continued to pursue swimming out of passion and dedicated myself for the next five years. I have had a lot of ups and downs over the past few years and I am just as thankful for my failures as I am about my successful moments. My freshmen year I had made my first sectionals team and finished 10th in the 100 yds. Breastroke. It was an amazing feeling as I had achieved something for myself and for my team. Yet during my sophomore year a lot of unexpected events occured. As a result, I did not meet my goals and it was a daunting to face. This helped me realize that although I didn’t get to where I wanted to be I was still pleased with how hard I worked that season under the circumstances. I had learned something new about myself that would help me with future goals.
As for college swimming I have always been passionate about continuing my swimming career into the collegiate level. Being a part of something bigger than myself has helped me through the peaks and valleys of swimming and I would love to bring my passion with me to the team. I have figured out the importance of teammate and coach relationships as well as school pride. Although I may not be the fastest, I have a lot to offer when it comes to being a good teammate and leader.
I am ready to fully commit myself for the journey ahead and have done so through my academic and athletic rigor. If you would like to talk please reach out as I am excited for what opportunities I have ahead in my collegiate swimming career.
