My name is Sam. Swimming has been my life since 2016. In 2018 I joined the high school and began my competitive swimming career. I didn't really begin to see success in swimming until my junior year of high school. In 2020-2021 , my junior year of high school, I was elected team captain and led my team to a victory at the Oregon Special District 1 Swim Championships. That year I also qualified for the Oregon 4A State Swim Championships in the 200 medley relay swimming the breaststroke leg as well as in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. This year I was fortunate to be re-elected as the team captain. I had a very successful season, leading the team to a win at our league meet, solidifying us as the back to back to back league champions. As well as qualifying for the Oregon 1A/2A/3A/4A State Swim Championship in the 200 medley relay swimming breaststroke, the 200 free relay and the 100 breaststroke.
Outside of the pool, I keep good grades and enjoy my classes. My favorite classes are ones that involve science. I was awarded the American Chemical Society Outstanding Chemistry Student Award. I'm most interested in the field of biology, specifically stream ecology and marine biology. When I'm not in the pool or the classroom, I spend a lot of time working at the local aquarium and really enjoy what i do. In my free time I can be found fishing, surfing or playing disc golf.
When it comes to swimming at the collegiate level my goals are to compete often and continue improving my swimming skills. I also want to improve my leadership skills and build new friendships. I want to grow academically and push my self to learn new things. Thank you for taking the time to read and I hope that you might have gotten to know me a little bit better,.
