Personal Statement

I swam in summer REC leagues in elementary school. However, I began swimming year round in my freshmen year of high school. Now in my 3rd year of Varsity swim, I have developed a burning love and passion for this sport and big goals that keep me driven. Adding Club Swim has allowed to keep me improving and learning. I like to work hard and enjoy criticism as I know there is always room to improve. I am one of the hardest workers you will ever meet and I feel that is best proven in action and not words. It has been a privilege to serve as captain of the varsity swim team because I enjoy leading and encouraging people to be their best. My family and friends get frustrated sometimes because I do not waiver from my work out schedule at all or join in on the birthday cake. But I feel my sacrifices are worth my goal to swim in college. My parents attended community college when they were married but my dad had the dream of competing in college football. He has shared his regret for not taking advantage of opportunities that were offered to him. I don’t want that to be me. My mom is now finishing her Master’s degree in her 40’s. Learning from my parent’s past, I know that I want to do my very best  with my college opportunities. My goal is to compete in college swim while earning my doctorate degree in sports medicine. It’s hard for me to talk about myself as I prefer to keep my head down and let my actions speak for me. I hope to have the opportunity to meet you so that you can meet the real me.

Training

  • swim training
  • 3 years
  • did summer league when I was younger but took 2 years off to power lift and play football then I can back freshman year and relearned how to swim and swam my first 500 in my sophomore year which was a 6:45 now my last time was 5:34 and now during practice, I can get into 5:30 and 5:29 territory, I swim with CBA the most but also with veterans memorial high on the varsity team. this summer I will be training long course 2 times a day along with my other regimens
  • weight training
  • 5 years
  • I have been weight lifting and strength training since 12. I did some low-end powerlifting meets at 13 in 8th grade nothing big but played football all middle and elementary school so had to get stronger because I am almost 80 pounds lighter than back then I am not as strong I can't pull the same maxes but now can lift my body weight or more for over 5 reps depending on the lift and focus on explosive strength and endurance along with pure strength. for example, I weigh 165 as of right now I am kind of "bulking" and today and did 185 for 5 sets of 5 when I am lighter around 160 or 158 I can lift 175 this is for the bench. and squat I do bodyweight always and focus on depth and explosion on the way up I can deadlift a lot compared to body weight but don't train it anymore to the loss of flexibility and injury it can cause. but just in case you want to know when I was 155 a few months back I would with belt rep 245 for 3 sets of ten with a warm-up of course.
  • running
  • 2 years
  • I will go on long runs once or twice a week can average from 6 - 10 miles as my last training day on Saturday just to change it up but only do this if there is not a meet close. will average a 7:45 mile pace and hold it close. i have felt that it helps my legs with their endurance in the water with a kick but do it cautiously because running can be hard on body and joints so i am smart about it.
  • open water swimming
  • 1 year
  • I go with my two club coaches to the beach coach bill barton and Phil Ugarte to swim and we will go many 3 or 6 miles depending on how hard the week was training-wise. we do it safe of course but I try to use all strokes and build strength and endurance by fighting the waves and the wind and other unpredictable elements.
  • all together summary
  • 3 years
  • I put all of these together and switch them out the only one that does not change is the swim every day I also maintain a 4000-5000 calorie diet to help return the amount I burn training and have in all especially this summer planed everything to where next high school season i will go to state and will be my best. and 3 years of it all being together. i have made a lot of improve meant and will not stop even if I get my dream wich is swim in collage.
