I have found my home in the sport of swimming. I have been swimming since I was about 8 years old and what I love most about the sport is that it is me against my former self and only I can make the difference between success and failure. It takes one focused and determined person to stick with a sport where all you do is stare at a black line for hours on end and not go crazy! I often use this time to study in my head which has probably aided me in remaining at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA. Although I love competing, I also very much love the comraderie and friendships I have made along the way. I was recently honored to be nominated as captain of the Antonian Swim Team which is very exciting for me and I accept the challenge to be a leader to my fellow teammates and hopefully bring them to a state title in the next two years. As a military child and the oldest of 4 kids in my family, I have learned to be independent and adapt to change. At 16, I have had to move 5 times, living in 4 different states and 2 different countries, all the while adapting to a new school and new swim team each time. I feel this has made me quite resilient which helps me to stay focused when I have that really tough practice where part of me just wants to quit but the other part of me knows there is a much brighter light at the end of the lane. I enjoy working with computers and I even built my own computer last year which is much faster than my parent's computer! I plan to major in software engineering but would love to continue swimming in college if given the opportunity.
