When I first started to swim it was something I instantly loved. Although it has come with hardships along the way, like not qualifying for futures the year that I wanted and breaking my thumb, swimming has taught me how to overcome these obstacles. I became serious about swimming after getting my first champs cut because I realized how much I enjoyed being competitive and reaching personal goals, and setting higher goals. That’s why I love to swim distance freestyle and the 200 butterfly. You have to know that you have the drive to win and that you want to push yourself to go further.
Swimming has shown me that in order to get better you can’t just work hard physically, you have to work hard mentally too. After obtaining this mind set of working hard it made me more interested in my academic achievements and pushing myself to become a stand out student. Some of my academic goals are maintaining all A’s and B’s throughout my scholastic career. I also want to be more involved with the community, so I volunteer at swim meets and other events. My high school swim team placed second in state last year for the first time in 8 years. I placed 3rd in my 500 free. And 8th in my 200 free. Along the way I figured out that not only my personal goals were important, but also the teams goals. Helping out my team and working together with them made me faster and more focused. I know I have what it takes to be a great leader and I look forward to being on your team!
