I started competitive swimming later than most. As a sophomore, I gave up basketball for swimming something I enjoyed doing recreationally.
I worked hard last year and was able to earn and maintain a spot on a varsity relay teams which made it to state. After the season was over, I knew my goal was to make it to state in an individual event.
This year, as a Junior, I worked hard at every practice and set my sights on achieving some personal records in addition to being a strong team member to help lead the team. In February, I qualified for state in the 2 individual events (200 IM &100 Fly) I performed as well as both relays. Being able to help my relay team achieve this along with my own success was the greatest thing. I separately was able to qualify for state for 2 events (100 backstroke and 100 Fly).
As a swimmer, I want to learn how I can do better. Being able to take feedback and apply the suggestions to my swimming technique helps me be a better swimmer and pushes me to the next level. I enjoy encouraging fellow teammates to keep going for their best as well. Swimming allows me to be a team member and an individual all in one which I really enjoy. Next year for high school I will potentially be the only Senior and I will need to lead the team and set a good example for my fellow team members.
I am an excellent student and take pride in my work. I am able to get good grades while participating in sports as well as holding 2 parttime jobs.
I am a caring, easy going, and hard-working individual. Being a leader, teacher or a follower is something I adapt well too.
I look forward to finding a college that I can excel in both swimming and my education.
