Hello, my name is Anthony Olazabal, and I am a 5’10 athlete from Kodiak, AK. Although I have 10 years of tennis experience, the duration of my high school tennis career is only 3 years because of the pandemic. As I have not garnered any official UTR tournaments, my UTR rating of 7.25 is unofficial; however, my official status should be determined soon as I plan on attending many tournaments this summer. Tournament opportunities on Kodiak are not available since we have a small remote island community not connected to the mainland, so I plan on attending the Oregon State University’s and Washington State University’s tennis summer camps to combat this.
My coaches can also speak on my behalf that I would’ve won the state championship if I played as I was already undefeated. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend my sophomore year due to being in close contact to a positive-testing person. As for my junior year, I had to attend a greatly admired family member’s funeral instead of attending our seasonal games. Upon my return, my sports director made the decision, which was heavily contested by my coaches, to refuse my travel eligibility because the director believed it wouldn’t be fair to the other players who played the seasonal games.
Nonetheless, I am willing to try my hardest to prove that I’m worthy of being scouted. I believe I’d be a valuable asset in the roster because I am dependable, reliable, and extremely passionate about tennis. My strengths include having a reliable serve, a strong forehand stroke, a confident backhand slice, and I am not afraid to run for the ball. I confidently believe that with my skills, I will win state this year.
