Paul Okuda '12 Recruiting Profile

I am a 5'6'' singles and doubles player from Kaneohe, Hawaii. I've been a member of the Punahou Men's Varsity Tennis team since my freshman year. My partner and I were named 2010 Doubles Team of the Year. I was selected to be a 2010 First Team Interscholastic League of Hawaii (ILH) All-Star. That year, I finished first in the ILH Doubles Tournament and placed third at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) State Tournament. Punahou, overall, finished first at the 2010 HHSAA State Tournament for the 20th year in a row. 

This past school year (2010-2011), I qualified for and was selected to participate in a program known as School Year Abroad (Japan). This opportunity allowed me the chance to live in Japan for a whole 9 months with a Japanese host family. While in Japan, I wasn't able to play any tournaments affiliated with USTA, hence the drop in my national and sectional rankings. 

I would like to attend an institution where I can find a good balance between academics and athletics. East or West Coast schools are of interest to me, but I would absolutely consider other locations. I would be a positive influence to a team whether I am playing a match or supporting my teammates and coaches.
