Throughout my life I've experienced multiple endeavors on truly finding who I am and becoming the athlete I am. Some of these endeavors and details have influenced me drastically. But my most significant accomplishment to this point was qualifying for Regional's and making it through to the quarterfinals. Doing all of this as a freshman is pretty mind boggling. I have been able to achieve this success because of the knowledge that I've gained about myself from playing tennis. I learned that I have the mental toughness to play state champions and not give up; I've learned I can make my body extend higher than ever and push myself until I'm sweating buckets to win a rally.
One physical attribute which immediately stands out is my height. While being a 6'6" athlete can come with a multitude of advantages, it has also come with some challenges. Being the biggest player on the court wasn't always my forte. Over the past year and a half I grew 14 inches and am projected to continue to grow. I have been playing with this ongoing growth spurt and have been forced to adjust accordingly. I've had to change my serve, my run game.. my whole style of play due to this new height. With several years remaining in my recruiting journey, I'm excited to fully develop my game around the strengths and opportunities that go with being so tall!
In addition to physical characteristics, I am also a proven leader. As a Freshman, I was selected as the Varsity Team Captain and led my team to a successful season. My personal record was 26-7. During the summer of 2019 I represented Las Vegas in the Maccabi games in Detroit Michigan. I competed in both singles and mixed doubles tennis matches and won a Silver Medal . The Maccabi games are an International Olympic style competition for Jewish athletes ages 13-17 that are held each summer.
After Middle School, my goal was to attend Desert Pines Magnet High School. The reason was simple. They are the only school in Nevada with a sports radio broadcasting program. During my Freshman year I took all AP classes and was also very heavily involved in radio broadcasting. I was a play-by-play and color commentator for Varsity Football which was broadcast on Facebook live each week. I also had my own weekly sports talk show, The Controversial Call with A&J, which also streamed live on Facebook. I can be followed on Facebook at Aaron Segal (Tennis Player Sports Broadcaster).
I hope to bring these leadership traits to your team!
