Tennis has transformed me into the person I am today emotionally, physically, and mentally. The adrenaline that is always present in my life has kept me doing and loving this sport from the beginning. I enjoy competition and take great satisfaction from calling the match point and being awarded the trophy. The atmosphere of the camps before the competitions and the meets both give me huge excitement. I have a chance to test myself at every match and improve my results. It has been the biggest part of my life and the part that I have for sure most enjoyed and still enjoying.
I‘ve been playing for a tennis club back in Turkey called ZSK since I was five and have been competing since the age of eight, and now I’m here, playing for New Hampton School. I’ve been holding first place since I was a sophomore and even though we had a shorter season last year because of Covid, I was undefeated.
It was such a special feeling to play for my club, represent it in the best way I can and now it is such a great feeling to play for my school. Although tennis seems as if it is an individual performance sport, for me it is more than that. While I play, getting excellent results for my team is one of my biggest motivators. Dedication to my team makes me stronger and even more successful.
I feel like having a good bonding with my teammates is as important as getting a win. I was so lucky to have such great teammates back in Turkey and it’s the same here, great players, great people, great teammates. They give me strength during hard practices and competitions. Working with several coaches has also given me different perspectives. I have been fortunate to have coaches who have motivated me and believed in me. They have taught me how to win and how to lose gracefully.
I practice six days a week during the season and around 2.5 hours each practice. During the winter, I work on strength and conditioning so I can get prepared for the season. Other than that, even though it’s not that easy when you are in boarding school, I also try to attend as many USTA tournaments as possible so I can still practice, improve and face new in-game strategies so I can prepare myself better for every outcome.
After practice, I concentrate on my school lessons easily and they lower my stress level during the exams. Tennis develops my skills such as self-discipline, goal settings, leadership, teamwork, and commitment. I’m also disciplined with my time management.
As a passionate student and a tennis player, I feel very excited about the possibility of continuing my academic and tennis career in the US. I have a desire to play tennis competitively at the college level. I’m looking for a school that will provide an equally challenging academic and athletic environment. I look forward to communicating with coaches who feel that I am the right fit for their teams.
Thanks a lot for you taking your time Coach!
