Hello, My name is Mike Glowacki and I am from Voorhees, NJ. I have polish nationality (both of my parents are polish) and I was born in the Netherlands. I came to the United States when l I was 3 years old. I had a late start to tennis. I began playing tennis after I turned 10 years old. Either of my parents played tennis, only my grandfather. He always wanted me to play however, I was playing travel soccer and practicing Tang Too Do when I was younger and I was good at it.I am a First Dan black belt in Tang Soo Do. When I started playing tennis just for fun I instantly fell in love with it. I also like the feeling of individual sport. It's a sport where I feel completely in control and only me decide how will I play. I was able to progress in tennis as I learn fast. Through my life I always was up for a challenged and my athletic ability allowed me to be placed with a group of peers with a higher level of me, weather it was tennis, soccer or Tang Too Do. I quickly managed to learn the skills, raise my level and excel in that group.
My goal with tennis is to play at the highest level I can. I am aiming for a chance to play for Division 1, 2 or 3 school, where I can show my full potential but also grow with my tennis skills. I am goal oriented, hard working and competitive not only in tennis but also in my academic performance. I am looking for a college program that will balance tennis with high-level academic program. It is very important to me. I am looking for a complete balance in both. I am very dedicated to tennis and my academics as well.
Late start in tennis forced my to push myself and learn fast. I did not know much about tennis when I started participating in tennis clinics but I was quickly recognized as talented and one of the most coachable kids the coach took on. I was very successful in 12s and honored to be best played in Philadelphia district. I was also top 10 in my section. In my 14s I was able to perform at a high level and represented my section in sectional tournaments I also started to like playing doubles at that time. It was successful years for me as well, I was top 15 in my section. After I realized that I wanted to become the best tennis player I could and even go Pro, I dedicated myself to tennis fully. I was homeschooled in 9th grade and I am homeschooled presently as well. I started to compete in other states and attend trainings in Florida. I have also experienced European tennis trainings in Poland and played ITF tournaments in the U.S. and compete with international players.
Covid-19 pandemic was difficult time for me and my tennis progression. Not being ablate compete and train was difficult for me. My sectional and UTR rankings went down as I was not able to compete at the level I did prior to Covid-19. I decided to focus on training and over a year ago I entered a high-performance tennis program at ProWorld Tennis Academy located in Boca Raton, Florida. I had the opportunity to be trained by the one and only Juan Nunez, prior coach of Gabriela Sabatini, Chris Evert and other who took them to grand slam championships. I developed a very close relationship with coach Juan and he helped me to get my game to the next level. I was also coached by Paolo Volpicelli, who was part of coaching team and friend of Matteo Berrettini. At the moment, I am planning to come back again to PorWorld beginning of 2023 for another training. I am always am thinking of ways to improve and challenge myself as a student and an athlete and become a better person.
I love tennis so much because of the completion. Every time I step on the court I play with my full heart and fight. For this I realized I would love to play tennis at college or university. I hope to find a school that will allow me to unleash my true tennis potential, better my team play and help me grow as a person as well as further my education. I am a perfectionist at times and a hard worker and I believe without a doubt I would make a perfect fit for a college or university program! What's after College? I always had a dream of becoming a Pro and playing on tour and it is still my dream! Thank you for taking time to read my personal statement.
