When I am part of a school, the school body becomes my second family. This was my mindset going into my journey of high school. My mindset translated to action and took the form of leading a student council, participating in charity events, and competing in sports teams. From the start, I was involved in my school’s student council; as I undertook the role of grade rep in the junior years. As a grade rep, I was mainly responsible for leading lunch-time activities, as well as continually posing as a role model for those to follow. In my senior years, I decided to dedicate more time and heart to pursuing a higher role in the council. In Grade 12, I ran for student council co-president on the basis of a platform that promoted inclusiveness as a necessary means for excellence. Once I made the position, the COVID-19 pandemic arose and brought with it many challenges. As co-president, I led the school fellowship while still respecting COVID-19 guidelines. For example, I led our school to the most successful school drive in its history, adapted previous charity events such as pancake breakfast into an amazing race event, in which all can enjoy fighting for a good cause. In addition to this, I materialized my familial mindset into the school body. I modified the outdated “litty-lunch” system, which in past years only attracted a small selection of the school’s population, and geared it towards activities everyone could take part in, as well as promoting outdoor/covid-friendly activities. Another role of leadership was in sports. In junior year, I participated in Volleyball, Cross-country, Soccer, and Track and Field, earning junior MVP of that year’s cross-country team. The next year, I pushed myself and joined the varsity basketball team as well as the previous sports listed. In addition to this, I started for the senior volleyball team in grade 10. In my senior years, I spread my leadership across all areas and was named captain for the volleyball team, and led our school to the semi-finals that year. In this position of leadership, I was able to embody our school’s motto: "Devoted to Christ, Dedicated to Excellence, Committed to Serve." Although I was not able to participate in soccer and track and field, I was able to earn Senior MVP of the Cross-country team as a result of repetitive perseverance. I believe that I am able to bring the mindset of family spirit to all areas of my life, and in doing this, I am able to strive for excellence while serving others. No matter what the environment I value hard work, and am a person who is enthusiastic about working/playing with people of all backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
