Personal Statement

Dual Citizenship (U.S.A & Canada) Doubles UTR 10.5 Top Canadian Junior Doubles player in Canada

Hi, my name is Coby Pearce, and I think I would make a great team member. I started playing tennis at the young age of two, ever since that day I have been addicted to training and improving my game. I am passionate about the game and feel lucky every day that I get to step on the court.

I love singles , and have a very crafty and powerful game, but I would love to have a future internationally in doubles.

Covid has affected my UTR in an extreme way and competing in major tournaments . I was already traveling to ITF’s and than everything had came to an end at a very critical point in my game.

This being said it has always been my dream to get a scholarship and join a team and push each other to all become better athletes for the school. I’m a top Canadian double’s player u18, and I have won major national doubles titles. I have a doubles UTR of 10.5 and improving daily. (There hasn’t been doubles tournaments since March 2020).

Last year I trained with Casey Curtis tennis academy, and I was getting privately coached By Casey Curtis himself. Since the pandemic I have moved back home and started training at the National Tennis Academy, in Ottawa.

I have a high GPA of 3.9 for the past 2 years of school. Total GPA for all 4 years including grade 9 is 3.3. Since I was 5 years old and visited Laguna beach, I knew I wanted to become a marine biologist. My second choice as a major would be business. Throughout the years I have made countless businesses and I still run my own Hoodie company. I was born in Scottsdale; Arizona and I currently reside in Canada. I’m a great team player and I would be a great addition to your team since I get along great with everyone and I love being part of a team that strives to achieve a common goal and help each other to get there.
I also love to play indoors, outdoors, in the wind (which is not common) , on clay and on hard courts.

Training

  • DOUBLES UTR 10.20
  • 10 years
  • Physical Training
  • 10 years
  • I have developed a range of physical skills in line with the Long Term Athlete Development Plan for tennis. Among the physical skills that I have developed are identified as priority in the LATD. The priority physical skills for tennis players in the Learning to Perform stage include endurance, strength, coordination skills, speed and agility, and flexibility (Tennis Canada). I have significantly developed flexibility as captured in my mastery of the stretching techniques, coordination skills, speed, and agility evident in my ability to move and learn fast in specific situations when playing tennis, mastery of multi-directional movement, and capacity to accelerate and decelerate. I am still developing my endurance and strength aspects of physical skills. Whereas I have developed some of my physical skills, I am in the process of improving other aspects of my physical skills. What My Training Looks Like My training is geared towards addressing the significant gap in my physical skills, achieving my sporting goals and geared towards my needs as a tennis player at my current learning to perform stage. Subsequently my training adheres with the completion guidelines for tennis under LTAD and include • Physical and Tennis training o Weight training – 1 hour per day with 2 days of rest o Cardio – 5 hours per week o Tennis training – 18-22hrs/week o Rest and regeneration – 4-5 weeks per year
