I have a passion for sports. Tennis is my favorite, but I enjoyed playing soccer for my city’s youth soccer club traveling team at the U8 through U12 level. I have played basketball since grade school. I was the point guard for my Boys and Girls club team starting in second grade. Our team won the championship three years running. I played point guard in junior high and on the Del Rio High School 9th grade and JV teams; I was the captain of the JV team. I am currently the starting point guard for the Del Rio High School Varsity basketball team. I have played varsity tennis for Del Rio High School since 9th grade. I played number #3 singles and #2 doubles as a freshman, and #1 singles and #1 doubles my sophomore year as well as this fall as a junior. I look forward to an awesome spring tennis season.
My dad plays tennis and has worked with me since I was little. Del Rio is a small town, somewhat isolated out in west Texas. It was always a challenge to find quality tennis opponents prior to high school. I feel my tennis game has improved immensely since I started high school. High school tennis has given me the opportunity to play top level players from the larger cities (Laredo, San Antonio) in our district. COVID canceled the spring 2020 tennis season but I did get the opportunity to play a few USTA tournaments last summer. Since I was new to USTA, I had to start at the challenger level. I won my second challenger tournament which allowed me to advance to the Champ level. I only had the opportunity to play one Champ tournament where I lost a close match to the eventual tournament champion. I look forward to playing more tournaments this summer with the goal of advancing to the USTA Super Champ level.
I am as passionate about academics as I am about sports. I hope to attend a university with a high quality, respected, engineering program. Ultimately, I want to go to graduate school and obtain a masters degree in engineering. I know this is a lofty goal, but I am not afraid of hard work, and I feel I have what it takes to get there.
Thank you for considering me for a position on your tennis team and student at your university.
