A few years ago the idea of playing tennis after High School would never have crossed my mind. But now after finishing my senior season of tennis I am so excited with the idea that I can keep playing another four years. I started playing tennis the summer before my Sophmore year and have grown so much since then moving from JV my Sophmore year, to Varsity Doubles two my Junior year (placing 3rd at state), to my Senior year playing Singles one. Playing the singles one position my senior year has helped me grow into a leadership role on my team. Knowing that everyone is watching you and looking up to you has made me a better person on and off the court because I want to make those around me better too. Playing the singles one position has been very challenging for me because I am very competitive and winning at that level doesn't always happen. I feel like the obstacles I have faced playing tennis, and being so new to the sport have made me even more motivated and excited to see how much better I can become as I learn more about this sport.
I am a two sport athlete, and have loved playing basketball since I was old enough to hold a ball. Last year I was part of the State Championship team and playing with that group of kids who were so talented taught me a lot of lessons like what it takes to win at a high level, and all the sacrifices you have to make to win. I feel like what I have learned all these years playing basketball transferred over to tennis because I know what it takes to win, and I practice and play with that mentality. Overall I am a very athletic kid who is determined and focused when I set my mind to something. I know, given the opportunities, I will be able to continue improving and being competitive at the college level. I got interested in this sport by playing ping pong with all my friends. I was super good at it, so one day I tried out tennis and found myself pretty good at it too. I decided to give tennis a shot and play for our school, and I ended up being very successful. I've had to overcome a ton of obstacles like losing matches last year, and that overall led to a successful season this year because I see defeat as motivation. I think I am overall just a really athletic kid with a great attitude and I would love to play tennis at a higher level.
