Personal Statement

My name is Hunter Dylan Roy and I am a young Christian who wants to compete to be the best, all for the glory of God. I am 18 years old and I attend Granite Hills High school and I am part of the graduating class of 2022. I have the integrity to get good grades because I want to. I am the most competitive person there is and I want to do whatever it takes to win and be on top and help/push my team and teammates to do the same.

I started sports when I was 4 years old. My first sport was Basketball and I have played it ever since. I started Track and Field in 3rd grade and have done it every year I could since. I joined Cross Country in 8th grade and have continued since.

At first I loved Basketball more than anything besides God. Basketball is the reason I even started to do T&F and XC. I wanted to use T&F and XC to make me stronger in my athletic abilities in Basketball. But after some time I realized that I had a better future in T&F and XC than I did Basketball. So about ever since my Freshman year of High School sports my primary sport became T&F and my secondary became XC while I did Basketball just for fun and to fill in the gap between the T&F and XC seasons.

So far my favorite accomplishment in all my years of sports is when I won league in the 800M as a Freshman. That season I brought home 2 league titles out of the 5 titles that my entire team earned in total....as a Freshman!!! That season was an amazing season. I was hoping to top this favorite accomplishment with defending my 800M title as a Sophomore, but due to Covid-19 my season was canceled and I will never know what would’ve come out of that season. But I am sure it would’ve blown that amazing Freshman year out of the water. My biggest goal in High School is to win league all 4 years in the 800M, but unfortunately Covid-19 canceled my Sophomore season of T&F and I will have to live my life winning 3 out of the 4 years, assuming I would’ve won it my Sophomore year. After canceling the last few months of my Sophomore year, Covid-19 then canceled just about my whole Junior year too. Fortunately I was able to have a few XC and T&F meets as a Junior. I was hoping to redeem what would’ve been my Sophomore season while also improving on it, and in doing so create a new favorite accomplishment. And even though I did have a very successful season given the circumstances that Covid-19 caused, I beat my Freshman stats, and I defended my 2 year old title in the 800M, it did not top my favorite accomplishment. That is probably because it just felt like a very quiet season. But now, I am a Senior and I am ready to destroy any of my accomplishments I have set over the years and finish high school with a bang and graduate with no regrets. In the end I will hopefully create a new favorite accomplishment by defending my league title in the 800M.

My long term goal in athletics is to compete in College and show my diversity by winning in multiple events. After College I would like to go professional. My biggest goal is to go to the Olympics and attempt to set a world record. I would most likely attempt to set Rudisha’s 800M world record of 1:40.91.

My academic goal in college is to receive the highest degree in Architectural Engineering and Business so that I can make a living with a career based on my degree. This is my academic goal because from a very young age I have loved to build and create things and I have always had a brain for math.

If I love what I do, it won’t feel like work.

RUN, COMPETE, and BUILD.

  • We didn't have a jump coach at my high school that season. So I was self trained and took the League title for the high jump with a "Western Roll". I went to this camp to learn the more fundamental technique so I could improve my jump height for the next season. California's mandated Stay-Home Orders did not allow for a Track season.
