Recently this cross country season I have taken the role of a team captain since the previous seniors have graduated and now it is my time to rise and take up the challenge of coordinating my teammates to success in their own season alongside of my coach. It’s definitely an overwhelming but proud feeling because everyone is looking up to you to do your best every practice and in response I demonstrate my grit at every practice in order that they may replicate my success of hard work in their own runs or possibly inspire them in their own academic or personal lives. It’s definitely not the easiest role but it is the most captivating task I have taken as when I see my peers step up to the plate and put every ounce of effort in an excruciating race or run I feel absolutely content and proud. This leadership opportunity has been rewarding because I thoroughly enjoy encouraging my teammates on a run. A simple “good job” or “I’m proud of you” can go a long way in someone’s heart. With the love I give it tends to be reciprocated around the whole team and it’s an absolute wholesome moment when you see your teammates encourage and reassure each other to do better which animates a sense of motivation to beat our competition as the aroma of in-group pride arises. It's a great joy to create a team oriented goal of winning and that's what differentiates me from a lot people because not only do I want to succeed but I want the people around me to do so as well.
