Personal Statement

Qualifying for Junior Olympics is the highlight and goal of my running career so far. This experience has and will show me who I will be competing against for at least the next 4 years of high school. My advancement to Junior Olympics has taught me a great deal about myself and that I must continue pushing myself to improve. Last year was my first real year of competitive running, after finishing my track season with my middle school, I joined Oak Hill Running Club. After only a couple of races I had trials for Junior Olympics. Next thing I know I am towards the middle of the long strand of runners with no shot of making it. After I finished I was disappointed that I wasn't going to advance but this last year I have been training so much harder because I promised myself that I was going to make it next year. After a successful year running for Oak Hill and my school in cross country and track, I qualified for the Junior Olympics in four events.

However, I know that academics are important to running too. Most universities have high GPA requirements and that is what propels me to continue achieving top grades in all my classes. My running and my grades will help me get into the college of my dreams where I will be able to study specific courses that will help me find a fulfilling career. But college is not only about studying for a major, college is where I can compete at one of the highest levels, where I can improve the most, and even where I can make it to the real Olympics. I have already reached one of my goals, now I must try even harder on the track and in the classroom to achieve the second.
