Hi, my name is Sawyer Reule. I'm getting ready to go into my senior year of High School at San Dieguito Academy High School. I love running, I always have since the day I could comprehend what it was. What makes me a good candidate for any running team is that I'm very dedicated, determined, and most of all, passionate about my sport. I'm a bit introvertive, but I'm very kind, friendly, and social when I'm on a team. Being the cross country and track and field team at my school is what helped me build my most closest relationships as I didn't know anyone going into my freshman year. What makes me different from other recruits is that I'm very dedicated, determined, and passionate. I'm always at practice, even during days that I was sick/congested, during my Jr. year I was out all year, for both cross country and track, dealing with 3, possibly 4 injuries. Those injuries were achilles tendonitis, pes anserine bursitis, a tibial stress fracture, and possibly a compressed femoral nerve. All of those injuries came consecutively. Despite all that, I found alternative ways to exercise, maintain fitness, and stay in shape for when I returned. I also run and train on vacations too. Also, when it comes to academics, I always make sure to make some time to get my assignments done on time and keep my grades up so I can compete. You need to have good, passing grades to be able to do your sport. My collegiate goals are to embrace both the mystery and challenges of competing at a higher level. In high school cross country you run 3.05 miles average, and sometimes 5k, in college you run 8k to 10k, and I want to challenge myself to be successful at those longer distances. Same in distance track, 5k and 10k especially, are races that I want to embrace the challenge of too. In high school in the CIF, 3200 is the longest distance you can do. I want to go into marathon running too in the future. I myself am someone who likes long distance running the best, which is ultra marathons, marathons, half marathons, 15k, 10k, and 5k (5k is the longest race I've done). Where on the other side, I like mid-distance running/races less, I don't hate them, they're just not what I prefer to do. Those would be like the 800, 1500, mile (or 1600), and 3k/3200. Most of all, I'm very passionate, while I only ran once in cross country and once in track due to injury, I had a fun time running and with just base training and no interval training, I got a 7 second PR in the 800 which my PR is 2:27.29. Also, even though I'll likely have a great final senior season of cross country and track given the improvement that I've made training, my current PR is 22:50.6 for 3.05 miles, if it says I got a time of 20 something my Jr. year on athletic.net that's wrong, because they gave me someone else's time and I didn't run in that meet. Even though that my current PR isn't what a lot of people would equate to being "NCAA worthy", I still have the extreme passion and desire to run and therefore put myself out there even if the odds of being on a college team are stacked against me. As my mom says to me, there's no hurt in trying, because if you don't try, you'll never truly know what could be. That's one last reason as to why my character is so unique compared to other recruits. It doesn't matter whether I dominate like the Conner Mantz's, Edward Cheserek's, Nico Young's, and Wesley Kiptoo's of the world, or just barely finish with nothing left in the tank like the inspiring Cooper Tear of Oregon did in 2021, if I get a uniform, I'll give it my all, and make it count in the best way that I possibly can. Lastly, in college, I want to major in kinesiology because I'm not likely to ever become a pro-athlete, but I love sports, so I want to become part of a sport team's training staff. Like an athletic trainer, or something similar to a physical therapist. Whether it be on a college or pro team, or maybe a high school team. Preferably college or professional. I myself love sports, football and hockey are my favorites to watch. Baseball I follow quite a bit because it helps me bond with my grandpa who's a big Angels fan. The teams I root for are the Washington Commanders (NFL), the Anaheim Ducks (NHL), the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels (both MLB). One last thing about me is that I have some mental disabilities. I'm on the autism spectrum, I have ADHD, I have general anxiety disorder, and I have IED (which is a disability that isn't really prevalent in my life anymore). I have prescribed medications, an online psychologist, and a psychiatrist to help me with them. I've also matured more over the years and worked really hard to overcome these challenges. I've developed effective strategies to deal with these challenges and I still work today on developing them even further to make them even better and more affective. Okay, sorry if it's a bit long of a personal statement, I just have a personal habit to write a lot, but that's it! Hope you liked and enjoyed it, and I hope you see me as a viable candidate for your team!
My senior season of cross country began on Saturday with the Bronco Roundup invitational. I ran in the varsity boys D-1 race and got 13:01.00. The result is available on athletic.net.
