Hello my name is Kieren W. Beckman, and I am a senior at Huntington Beach High School in Huntington Beach California. First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to look at my profile and reading about me, my passion as an athlete and quality of character.
Having pride in myself as an athlete and a teammate has not always just clicked for me. I've had to create bonds and mutual respect with those around me, whether it is a teammate or coach. These bonds have been fundamental in developing pride and commitment to my craft and teams. Coming into my senior year I am grateful for the decisions I've made over the past three years. The people that have coached me, competed with me and supported me are people that I will think about before every race to come. These are the people that have helped me see myself as an athlete. Every single word from each of those people has taught me one very important thing, I am in control of how far I can go.
I am driven by success; it is my one of my motivators to be great. Over time, my mind has embraced the mentality that failure is also a factor to victory. “Pressure turns coal into diamonds” is a quote that always comes to mind when I think of myself. With every stride I take on the track, from every breath I take when I finish, I work to build myself into not only the best athlete I can be but also the best person that I can be.
Throughout my life, I've walked with the intention to be the best at what I love. From the mental obstacles of relying on a team to create synchronicity, to the responsibility and joy of being who the team relies on for the win. I found my heart in track. In times where I have been disappointed in my personal performance, the discouragement always transforms into structure and continues into discipline.
Heading into my senior year of high school and having the experience over the last three years encourages me to help guide the future of the HBHS track and field program. I celebrate with my teammates when they perform to their standards and give them support when they feel as if they could improve. As I reach the end of the tunnel, I find myself being the same as those that made me continue to push towards my goals, an individual that wishes for their peers to seek the taste of victory while also a competitor that moves with their head and strikes the track with every intention to grow and improve with each step.
I am excited to see what victories and challenges my final year of high school track will bring, and I am increasingly looking forward to the opportunities to humbly compete at the collegiate level in the years to come.
