Hi, my name is Muluken and my name means “ blessed all day”. I was born in Africa (Ethiopia) and my parents adopted me when I was almost 3 years old. I first became interested in team sports when I started playing club basketball at 8 years old and played through 8th grade. I joined my High School track team my freshman year and started on the sprint team. The jump coach asked me to join the jump team and I learned that I really enjoyed jumping. I spent the summer of my Freshman year with the Leap Squad Track Club. My coach is Keinan Briggs, the jump coach for Mater Dei HS in Santa Anna, CA. I made the Varsity jump team my Sophomore year. My personal best in the long jump is 21’6” and my personal best in the triple jump is 39’.11”. I was looking forward to my Sophomore year. My coach and I thought I would break 20 feet on my long jump and 40 on my triple jump. Unfortunately, my season was cut short due to Covid. I am working to improve my personal bests and be a positive leader on the team. I workout daily and train at a boxing gym. Boxing helps with my strength, stamina and balance.
I am a good student and I enjoy drawing in my free time. I am taking some honors classes as well as AP History.
My freshmen year I joined the South Coast Chapter of National League of Young Men, (NLYM) and held the office of President for my class. My sophomore year I held the position of Recording Officer. This organization’s main focus is community service and attending cultural events. One of my favorite volunteer activities with this organization is serving food to the elderly in need at a local church on Tuesday nights. I am planning on continuing in this organization throughout high school.
My dream is that my passion for athletics will help me reach my educational goals. I look forward to meeting with my prospective coaches and educators.
