Since I have started playing water polo I have always been determined to be the hardest worker in the pool, even if I’m not the most talented. Water polo has made me tough through adversity and better understanding to how teammates think in the water.
In the water and out I am very coachable and a great listener. The way I can listen to a skill that a coach is teaching and apply right away is what makes me a good fit for any team. I’m always the last one out of the pool, putting in as much work as possible and using the pool time to the most. In the Midwest we have very limited pool time with few water polo programs scattered around so it is very important to me to grind as hard as possible until I physically can’t anymore. When I think about stopping and quitting, I think about the guy on the other side of the country who just quit. One more set, one more rep. I have more grit then the guy next to me with the same goal.
As a person I am always open to criticism from coaches and teammates. Criticism is a crucial thing because it helps me become a better player, teammate, and listener. I adapt really well to new environments and always have an open ear for advice.
The way I set myself aside from other recruits is by not stopping until the job is done. With the pandemic going on and limited facilities, I am using everything to the maximum and getting in the pool 4-5 times a week while also doing weight training 4-5 times a week. Keeping my body in shape and ready for the next challenge is crucial for success.
I always hold my academics to a very high standard as some other athletes may not. While kids are out hanging out Im inside making sure all of my school work is getting done and am studying for my classes. Staying on top of all my work and being organized is what sets me aside from the pack.
