Ever since I was little, I have always been a runner. In elementary school, I would "run for life" before school. I would run as much as possible to earn "feet" badges every few laps, and I would always start the day off sweaty. Throughout middle school, I always tried my hardest on any run we did. I met a couple of friends throughout those years - very fast friends who I have still yet to beat in a race. However, I know I will eventually beat them if I work hard and smart enough.
During my freshman year, cross country wasn't my main focus. Sure, I tried hard at it, but I was more focused on baseball in the spring. After a disappointing baseball season, I started running again. I worked through a productive summer and then battled my way onto the CIF cross country team by November. Then, routinely, I went back to baseball through December. Something felt wrong. I couldn't hit, and I hurt my arm. But worst of all, I knew the runners were still working hard without me. I was slacking. It was one of the toughest decisions of my life, but I chose to break away from baseball and join the track team.
I have been consistently running since then, and I look forward to consistent training for years to come. I hope to someday be on a supportive, caring, and fun collegiate team. It is also in my best interest to perform well academically throughout high school and college, maintaining a grade point average above 4. I am a positive person and I will always try my absolute best, whether that is at my schoolwork, at being the best person I can be, or at racing.
