I am not like most other athletes. Having lived in a small coastal town, I never had the advantages and resources that most other top high school athletes have. I didn’t have personal trainers to help me out, or running camps to go to. I often had to rely on my own work and effort, and work with the resources I had. However, the time and effort I must put in is increased even more when you include the fact that I have autism. Sometimes these disadvantages threaten to get in the way of my progress, but I strive never to let that happen. I still make the decision every day to show up and give 1000% during practice and every race. I still make the effort to show up to every meet, even when my family has special events planned on the same day. My dedication doesn’t go unnoticed either: My coaches and teammates also recognize the hard work I put in, and many respect me for that. In fact, not only was I captain of the Junior Varsity Team in the 2018 season, I also got 2 Most Dedicated awards in both the 2019 Cross Country and track seasons. I have worked very hard throughout the years to improve to where I am now, and my times were much better than they were in the past. I am looking for a college that will help me grow as both a student and an athlete, and be willing to commit their time, effort, and resources to help me reach new heights. Overall, I am a dedicated and coachable athlete who works well with others, and I am always looking to improve and become better by any means. I am very good at maintaining my focus, and I help my peers to maintain theirs as well. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.72 and I am focusing on a major in Mechanical Engineering (unfortunately, I have yet to take an official SAT due to the coronavirus). I have the qualities of a dependable athlete who can be counted on to show up and do their part every day. My teachers, coaches, and teammates perceive me as a very committed runner, and a hard worker both at and away from school. My coach even said this about me at the end of the 2019 cross country season: “I don’t know what my plans for a race would be if you didn’t show up to run it.”
