My understanding of a scholar-athlete is a person who takes initiative, both in the classroom and on the playing field.  In my personal experience, finding the value of academic success paired with athletic accomplishments has taught me the impact that hard work and perseverance can have on anyone.  I participated in club soccer for 9 consecutive years which taught me the value and purpose of teamwork, competition, and accountability to the program.  These experiences have shaped the person I am today, and have instilled the confidence and courage I need to pursue a higher level of competition. 

I am fortunate to have had opportunities to compete in track and field events throughout my high school career.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy it, and even more, how accomplished I would feel.  I have experienced success when competing in track and field events, and have a new-found love of the sport.  I wish to be a part of a program that will challenge my academic pursuits, as well as my hope to continue to compete in track and field events at the collegiate level. I met every challenge head on and handled each with a high level of maturity.  My secret is that I view hard work as the necessary ingredient for success in both athletics and academics.
