John Slavinsky '22 Recruiting Profile

I have not always been the fastest or strongest kid on the team, but by working hard all through quarantine, I had breakout seasons last winter and spring which has allowed me to grow as a person and really find a sport that I love. While I have shown the most promise in the 400m and 800m races, I have also been trying a lot of field events for fun, maybe working on transitioning over to becoming a decathlete. In addition, I have recently started running cross country this fall, and with only 3.5 months of distance training, I took my 5k best from just under 20:00 to 17:41. I was a junior (and will be senior) captain on both my school's indoor and outdoor track teams, being responsible enough to be trusted by my coaches and teachers to lead the teams, but friendly and charismatic enough to also be approachable and a mentor to the other kids on the team. My teammates and I joke around with each other which has created a very tight-knit team and a bond very few other teams have, and I would love to find this community on a track team at the next level to continue my athletic and academic career.
