Three years seems like the blink of an eye in the overall span of a life, but in that short span of time, my life has changed in so many amazing ways. Heading into high school, I was uncertain on how I would focus my time at Milton. I needed to find a way to leave my mark on Milton High School. The best decision of my life to date came the week after 8th grade ended, when I decided I would run cross country for 4 years. Running has always been the perfect fit for me. “You get out what you put in” applies to cross country and track more than any other sport, and hard work was something I was always taught to value growing up.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be surrounded by a dedicated group of coaches, and teammates whom I now consider to be among my closest friends. During my freshman and sophomore years, I was able to learn from my superiors, and without their help and guidance, I would not be the runner I am today. My junior year has been the biggest change of my cross and track career. I feel that I have learned the most about myself this year. Being one of the remaining runners from our varsity team, I have been expected to help lead the team and set an example. Our team this year has felt more like a family, and that’s exactly what I want my experience in college to feel like. My college experience needs to cater to my academic desires as well. Education will always measure equal to, if not greater than athletics for me. I have taken great pride in my grades, and want to maintain a 4.0 GPA in both high school and college. Like running, I have to push myself to be my best in school. I’ve been blessed by a family who has been able to assist me in my academic and athletic pursuits and celebrate my goals/accomplishments. My teammates and coaches are part of that family, and I know that I will continue to ‘stay the course’ for many more years.
