My smallest achievements and greatest failures define me as a person and as an athlete. The most challenging practices of both running and swimming where I persevered have made me grow as a person more than anything. My own personal fight in practice, pushing myself to find a way to get the job done, makes me who I am. One last set, two more reps, 300 meters left, 1200 meters left, one last flip turn before the final 25 yards of a swimming race, and a race day where I just don't have the expected strength, all with a fighting finish. Mental fight in practice makes me who I am.
My interest in running began in seventh grade when I took my mental approach from swimming to running. My love for running started at the beginning of my freshman year in high school. Participating on the Varsity Cross Country Team as a freshman and continuing to have success as a middle distance runner during the Track & Field season, my desire to participate in the sport grew. As I approached my junior cross country season last fall, I knew I wanted to continue running at the next level. My team experience, the training it takes during the season to achieve goals for post season, and the successes I have had during my high school career have solidified the love I have for running and my desire to continue participating at the collegiate level.
Looking towards my future and a career for my life, I have great interest in becoming an engineer. At my high school I have utilized the resources available to me so that I can have a deeper understanding and strong knowledge on technical engineering. So far, I have taken three courses pertaining to engineering. I have taken engineering specific courses in a program called Project Lead The Way, and I am also involved in the Engineering Club where I can compete on a state and national level with my drafting skills.
