This is my first year of high school track, I started running in late February of 2022. Last time I ran track was for my cross country and track team in middle school.
I was playing hockey for the past 8 years due to injury I could no longer play at the level I wanted to so I switched to track. The transition to track this year was not easy at all for me. I started very late in the season which made it hard for me to get a spot in meets or show my true potential. Also through all of this I was battling through very bad shin splints. I would consistently get kicked out of practice because I was limping but I persevered through it until my body could adjust to the workout and I would be able to stay in practice.
This track season I ran the 100, 200, and 400, I mostly ran in our 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays and sometimes the open 100. My only goal this year was to get to a point where I could compete at the state meet and be able to get a medal. My 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams both made it to state. Our 4x100 unfortunately did not make it to the state finals but our 4x400 team made it, where we ran a 4:21 and I lead off with 49.93 split and got third in state. I continued to run and practice in the summer. I participated in USATF meets as well as some other invites. I managed to get two PR's this summer in my 100 and 200. I also qualified for USATF nationals for the 400. I plan on continuing to practice throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall season.
By the end of the season I was a leader of the team and my coaches recognized this. I am now one of the captains of my track team. I think this reflects how hard I worked to get to the level I'm at right now.
My goal for my academic studies is to one day become an anesthesiologist. I want to study biochemistry in college and then work my way to medical school.
