The highlight of my highschool career would have to be the time that I competed at the cross country 2A state meet as a freshman. That day, my team made history. First team to qualify for state and by extension, place. That day and the ones leading up to it, I learned the values of hard work, teamwork, and sacrifice. To this day, I retain the lessons taught to me by my coaches and teammates. If it were not for them, I would have never discovered my love for running. Whenever a workout or race gets tough, I think of all those people that have supported me and I gain an extra bit of strength. I run for those people. If I just ran for myself, I would have given up years ago. With supporters cheering me on from the sideline, I can accomplish my goal to become a collegiate runner. I wholeheartedly believe that hard work beats talent.
Just like other people, I run my best when I have competition. Athletes that are equally as fast as I am or faster. This does not just apply to sports. It also applies to the classroom. For that reason, college is a dream. Everyday I will be surrounded by people that are the future of America. On the track, I can reach my full potential. My ability to shadow people will really start to shine. From the start to the end of a race, I can run behind a person without ever losing them. If the person that I am shawdowing is too slow, I will catch up to the runner in front of me. Even though I am a underclassmen, being one has given me useful knowledge. I know that I need to be open minded. I do not know everything, not even close. So, that is why I need to listen to people that know more than me. I will never turn down a helping hand.
