Dear Coaches,
I am a sophomore at Bishop McNamara Catholic School in Kankakee, Illinois. My goals are to get good grades, be a leader, and succeed in my sport. Ever since my first practice in 5th grade I had been hooked on track and XC. My goals for my sport would to be a leader on and off the track, succeed and get better with my teammates, and to join a college team.
I would be a great candidate for any team because I am a leader. This trait was developed early in grade school. I was the 7th grade XC team captain. The next year I transferred to Bishop Mac and was now running with many more kids my age. My friend Christian Provost and I were now the team captains. Christian was a bit faster so I had to accept the fact that I wasn’t number one anymore. I was perfectly fine with that, which I think it is a great trait of mine; I don’t pout or get mad because someone on my team is clearly better than I am, especially after being the number one runner for so long. I learned technique from Christian that helped my improve my XC time throughout the training season. I moved my state place from 52nd my 7th grade year to 6th place over all at State my 8th grade year. I ended the year with a time of 10:56. From this experience I know that good leaders take advice from others and are always "learners", willing to adapt and change to become better.
I am a hard worker because I don’t stop until I have reached my goal. For long jump my 7th grade year (since I wasn’t able to my 8th grade year because of Covid) while everyone was messing around, I was out jumping and improving my form trying to get better. Putting in more work paid off because that year I jumped 2+ feet farther than my PR and broke my county record for 7th grade LJ. Not only that, I managed to WIN STATE that year.
Although sports are a priority, school always comes first (especially when your Mom's a teacher!). I’ve always been a hardworking A student. I have the ability to manage school, sports, and my flock of sheep that we show as a family throughout the Midwest region. My hard work and dedication has paid off in the form of success in all three areas that I have committed a great amount of time towards. Other school and community activities that I have been apart of include Speech Team, Scholastic Bowl, Basketball, Math Team,Chorus and 4-H. I have completed many hours of volunteer work to help my school and community.
