From the playground to the track, running has been an essential part of my life. In the start, doing track and field felt like more of a chore than anything as a sixth-grader. As school became more and more complicated through the rest of middle school and now high school, running has been my outlet. It has helped me grow into the person I strive to be. It has grounded me mentally and emotionally during periods that weren't easy. Coming into high school off of eighth grade, I was eager to show my skills from middle school only to be met with the truth that the journey to becoming a great sprinter was only the beginning by my head coach, Tim Hasso, (@[email protected], 708-368-1034).
Through the indoor season of freshman year, I became acquainted with what being a student-athlete, was like until the pandemic hit. Though my spirits were low initially as my momentum came to a halt, practicing with my sprint coach,
Keven Allen (708-334-6886), improved my mental state and my technique.
By my outdoor season of sophomore year, I was fortunate enough to compete with my team at conference, sectionals, and be an alternate for our state meet in which we placed seventh. Track has served to be not only an emotional outlet but has brought the best out of me socially as it has helped me transition into my school environment and to build relationships. It has further sparked a sense of leadership among my teammates.
Today, I set my eyes on studying business, marketing, entertainment management, and economics in college along with conquering this year's season to compete at a collegiate level with an athletic or academic scholarship/financial need.
