I started track to fill time, Just to fill the gap between soccer seasons. I thought it would be something to get me in shape and I would only stick with it for a season or two. It quickly became my main sport, by the end of my freshman year track was my new sport. I loved everything about it, the coaches, my event, the meets. Suddenly instead of counting the days till soccer started, I was counting the days until track season started. I've learned more in track than I thought I ever would from a sport. Treating and dealing with injuries, how to work with people, dedication, how to wake up early. So many things I struggled to do before, not became habit as I had to do them every day. I hated waking up early, running, working toward something, were all things I used to have huge issues with.
I had wanted to join track in 8th grade, but I broke my femur and had to sit out for the season. Braking my leg is one of the biggest challenges I have ever had. Having to deal with decreased mobility everyday, sitting around not being able to do anything. This is where all my habits started. Having to go to physical therapy 3 times a week, dealing with these hard workouts after losing all the muscle in my leg. Its where I learned to keep working, learning that because practice is over doesn't mean the work stops. That if I wanted to be better, at the time actually just healing but now to get to new heights. All the work starts outside of practice.
I want to run track and pole vault for as long as I can, I realize how ever I can't do it forever. This is why I want to run track and pole vault in college. So I will be able to continue running track, while also building a fall back as a agricultural engineer. School has never been my strong suit, and right now i'm improving. I'm trying to graduate with the highest grades I can which have slowly been going up since my freshman year. Then when I get to college I would like to be as close to straight A's as I could, until I graduate from college. This is another place Track comes into my life, offering an escape from school. For 3 hours a day I can just stop and not think about anything but track.
