There are several attributes that are important to me as a runner and a student and I believe these traits will help me to become a successful college student-athlete. Self-discipline, motivation, being a member of a team, leadership, appreciation for the sport, the ability to make the tough days fun, and the overall betterment of myself as a person are just a few of the characteristics I will bring as a member of a college team. After college I'd like to become a lawyer, and these qualities will greatly help me in my future career. What really sets me apart however is not any of the previous traits listed, but my passion for running and my ability to improve the morale of the team. This passion for the sport has shown in many instances such as running the state meet my sophomore year the day after I was diagnosed with pneumonia, coming back from an awful sprained ankle two weeks before the county meet in eighth grade, and overcoming a two week flu before my freshman track season. This passion for running blossomed when I first started cross country in middle school with the help of my coach David Hoffa. Coach Hoffa made the worst days great and encouraged everyone to run to the best of their ability every race day. The passing of Coach Hoffa earlier this year made me come to the realization that I'd like to continue his legacy by running in college and pushing myself to be a better runner and person every day.
