Hi, my name is Donovan. I love sprinting and jumping and am excited to continue my track & field career.
I began running my sophomore year after the urging of my parents to try a HS sport. They saw the potential in me that I didn’t yet recognize and encouraged me to try track for one season. I ran sprints Spring of my sophomore year and I was mediocre but loved being on the team. I started working 1-on-1 with a Strength and Conditioning Coach and doing additional training outside of practice. I trained all summer and fall to prepare for the indoor season. I wanted to try jumping and at my first meet, I got 5’ 10” and realized I loved jumping. Due to overtraining, I got injured and focused on healing and recovery so I could come back even stronger.
When the outdoor season began, I decided to try horizontal jumps as well as continuing to improve my 100m and HJ. After focusing on training and recovery during the off-season, I dropped my 100m by 1.4 seconds and increased my HJ to 6’0”. Despite not getting any training for HJ or TJ, I medaled in both at my first meet and swept 1st place in all my events at my second meet of the season.
I’m currently ranked 3rd in my school’s all-time records for LJ and HJ and 3rd for juniors for TJ. My goals for the 2023 Spring season are to qualify for Nationals in LJ, HJ and TJ and to beat the school records for all 3.
My goals for the end of my HS career are to get 47’ in TJ, 24’ in LJ, 6’6” in HJ and 10.9 in my 100m.
My goals for the future are to get recruited by a D1 school that values both learning and athletics as much as I do. I’m excited to participate in college athletics while also continuing my education and broadening my horizons.
I’m a hard worker and I’m coachable. Coaches have told me that I’m extremely gifted at being able to take instruction and immediately implement it. I love learning and I continually push myself to improve in all areas of my life.
