Between November, 2014, and July, 2015, my family went through an unexpected transition that forced me to focus and do better in key areas. Both my parents had to make work changes and I had to become independent sooner than planned, but this is now helping me achieve my school goals, and improve my hurtling.
I made some focused corrections in my studies helping me to now get even better grades than before, and I chose to focus my athletic efforts on hurtling and sprinting. Before my senior year, I had mostly taught myself hurtling by watching video clips and trying different techniques until I got the feelings and times I wanted. I had also been splitting my efforts between track, cross country - and in my freshman year - soccer and basketball too. This year I chose to work on hurdling and sprinting, and I found a coach who helped me focus on correcting some of my flaws, especially with my starts and getting my foot down after each hurtle. My new times put me 5th in the state, and I feel I can even go higher in the standings with my new discipline, focus and coaching.
