For my personal statement I want to talk about how my family has had an impact of how I was raised to be and how I get my competitiveness. I was born and grew up in the middle of Michigan and have two siblings. My brother, who is older than me, first introduced me to competing in track because he was on the middle school team as a sprinter and hurdler. I am more so a bigger physique, so I spoke with the coach to see about throwing shot and if I could get started a bit sooner than the other kids. This started when I was in 6th grade and I have loved every second of it. I have been told to always be as coachable as possible. With shot put and discus, I need to be technically sound, and listening and willing to learn from coaches has helped me improve every year. I am very focused on improving my technique, but when a teammate asks or needs help, I am very willing to work with them. I set a goal before each season for both outdoor and indoor season. My short-term goal for my Junior year would be to get to 55’ in shot and to be consistently over 170’ in discus with a PR of over 180’. I would also want to win the state title in discus this year and place in shot put, and to place top 15 at New Balance Nationals. My long-term goal would be to make it to a solid school for both academics and track and proceed to perform to the top of my ability.
