Personal Statement

I think the biggest reason why colleges should look at me is simply for my amount of dedication to the sport. In my mind I don't really even see how anybody could be more dedicated than I am. With this amount of dedication, I think going to college on a track/cross country scholarship would be the best way for me to go because it is what I love doing. Also I know how important it is for me to get good grades. So if getting good grades is the ticket to me running in college I am also very dedicated to trying my hardest in school.

  • The summer before 8th grade is when I really started working out frequently. I averaged about 15-18 miles per week. That was enough to earn me a very successful 8th grade cross country season. I got 6th at the state junior high xc meet out of about 400 runners. After xc that year I really kicked up the mileage to something I wasn't really ready for and I ended tearing my meniscus playing basketball. However I was back in time for track and ended up getting 9th at the state junior high track meet in the 1600m with a 5:04. After the winter of 8th grade, when I tore my meniscus, I learned the importance of resting to prevent injury. Anyway, the summer before freshman year, I averaged 30 miles per week. That summer I worked really hard at controlling myself and not working out too much but working really hard when I did work out. So I think my freshman xc season was OK but I think it could've been better if I ran more than 30 miles per week. I didn't really realize that I wasn't running as much as I should until after my freshman track season started. So here I am now averaging about 50 miles per week, and adding on 5 more miles per week every. For example I started with 30 miles the first week, then 35 the next week and so on. Gradually building up the mileage i think is helping a lot. I feel so much stronger and faster on my runs. Anyway I'm still learning and critiquing my training every off-season. So I'm really hopeful for what's going to happen in my sophomore year and I'm confident that all of my hard work will pay off.
